5 Tips on How to Prepare for Your Newborn Session in Studio | Buckley Newborn Photographer

Being a fairly new mom myself I can remember the first days and weeks of motherhood. I was exhausted and so in love. One mistake that I made was that I didn’t have professional photos of my new baby done. I really do regret that because babies are only little once and they grow so so fast. I know that it is really hard to get things done in those first weeks so I have put together 5 tips to help ease the preparation for a Newborn Session.

Tip 1

Bring Items of Sentimental Value

One thing that I suggest my families bring are items that have sentimental value. These can be anything from a stuffed animal to a blanket that has been made especially for baby. Other things could be items that have been handed down for generations or something brand new that you had to have.

Tip 2

Pack the Essentials

It is best to have all the essentials the you will need to keep baby happy. Typically this will be milk whether you are breast feeding or bottle feeding there will be more than enough time to get that baby fed. I even like to take a few picture of that process as well if you are up for that. Have extra diapers, wipes and a pacifier if you are using one. These items will come in handy.

Tip 3

Be ready to have at least a couple images of Mom and Dad with baby.

Like I said before I regret not having a Newborn Session done with my daughter. I also wish that I had some professional images of her and I and especially her with my husband and son as well. These are precious images that would have been so cherished. My session includes hair and make up for mom so I you want to take advantage of that please do! We would love to pamper you momma! For those of you that are hesitant, it is my job to make you look great!

Tip 4

Go with the Flow

Newborn Sessions are not meant to be perfect. Babies are amazing on their own and for that reason my studio doesn’t arrange babies, wrap them up or put them in baskets. I take a different approach to Newborn Photography. Everything is really baby led. I let them move freely so we don’t have to be worried if they will stay asleep or cry. The images will be beautiful and natural.

Tip 5

Feed Baby Prior to leaving the house

Feed your baby as much as you can about 1-2 hours before session time so that they are full and as happy as they can be. This will help in many areas. However if a feeding is needed at any point during the session breaks can be taken as needed to make sure baby is totally happy.
