What to Wear to Your Fall Photo Shoot | Ideas for Mom

Are you having or thinking of having Family Photos this Fall?

Fall is the photographer busy season because Fall, it seems, is the most sought after season to have Family Photos. It could be the fall colors, the upcoming holidays or you might be a last minute planner, like me! Whatever the reason Fall is very popular for Family photos.

But what do we wear?

This is, of course, one of the most asked questions that Mom’s ask me. (Because most of the time Mom is the one planning family photos) While I have basic suggestions on what to wear I like to have a Pro step in each season and give her tips for what to wear.

I introduced her last season but here is a quick re-intro of Sam Dorn! My name is Sam! I am the blogger behind Learning to Bloom and a copywriter. I am married and have two adorable fluffy fur babies, cats named Baxter and Theo! I love to blog about plus-size fashion inspiration, decorating for the holidays, personal development, my adventures in the garden, DIY and craft projects, and pretty much anything else that strikes my fancy!

She is breaking down 3 tips to help you find what to wear or your Fall Family Photos this season in the PNW!

Glorious Fall! The rich colors, crisp cool weather, and overall coziness of Fall make it my favorite season to dress for. Everything feels so vibrant this time of year and I love using that as inspiration when I get dressed in the morning! Taking inspiration from this time of year is a great place to start when deciding what you should wear for your photoshoot! Here are my 3 tips on how to style yourself for your Fall family photoshoot!

1.      Use Fall colors as your inspiration

Fall colors are my number one inspiration for dressing during this season. Colors can range from deep burgundy to vibrant burnt orange, and even lovely pale sage green. These colors will add a beautiful richness to your Fall Family photos. Pinterest is a great resource for ideas. Choose 2-3 coordinating colors and build your outfit around that and use them when deciding what the other members of your family will be wearing.

2.      Embrace texture

Texture adds such a cozy vibe to Fall outfits! It can add dimension and interest without the use of a pattern in your photos. My favorite way to add texture is with a great knit sweater in a solid color. A simple knit like this sweater or a beautiful chunky cable knit are great options! Other textures include tweed, lace, chambray, faux fur, etc.

3.      Accessorize

Accessories are a great way to express your individuality and elevate your outfit. The different materials are also a great way to add additional texture! I love a wide-brimmed hat, a cozy blanket scarf, a beautiful velvet headband, and/or a bold lip. Keep the accessories to a minimum to avoid it looking too busy but have fun with it!
