What's in my camera bag? | Buckley, WA Family Photographer
a look inside my camera bag
I often get asked what equipment I use during my photo sessions. I am a little bit of a minimalist when I am outside of the studio since I rely solely on the sun for lighting. Check out what I take with me
most of my equipment i have had since i was in college which was quite some time ago. all over it had held up very nicely since then. this backpack was one of my smarter purchases. it is able to fit quite a bit of equipment and is very comfortable to wear. i like it much better than the single shoulder strap camera bag i received when i bought my Canon camera because that one doesn't distribute the weight very well and gets uncomfortable very fast.
Lets look inside
another great thing about this bag is that you can customize the compartments to fit all your gear. as you can see i have placed the spacers to fit all my gear nice and snug protected and bumping into each other during travel.
my camera bodies and lenses
my main camera body is the Canon 5D and my main lens that i am using right now is the 50mm. the 50mm lens is an overall good lens for portraiture. it is a fixed lens which means that it does not zoom. so if you want a close up of your subject then you would need to move yourself closer to them and if you wanted a shot further away away you would need to move farther away.
this is my other camera body that i have had since i was in college. i like to have two camera bodies so that i don't have to change lenses. on this camera body i have my 100mm macro lens for super close up shots with a shallow depth of field. what that means is that there is a small area of clear focus and the rest of the image is blurry. see an example below. mainly i would use this during newborn photography when the baby is sleeping. the 17-85 lens is my only zoom lens that i use sometimes on my outdoor sessions when I want to zoom in from far away.
essential extras
i have a few essential tools in my bag. the Canon speedlite 430X on the left is for really dark situations where i want to add a little kick of light. i don't use this straight on but bounce it or add a cover to soften the light. the Sekonic light meter in the middle is so helpful in get your exact setting of shutter speed and aperture. lastly i have extra camera batteries and flash cards. it could be argued that these are just as or more important that anything else. you wouldn't want to be part way through your shoot and have no power or run out of space for photos.
well there you have it. all the items that i keep with my when i am at my sessions. if you have any questions about my equipment or anything else ask me in the comments of send me an email! i am always open to communication. info@brookeholliday.com.
