How to style yourself for your Fall Family Photo Session | Buckley Family Photographer | Brooke Holliday Photography

Where do we start with styling your outfit for a Family Session?

There are so many stress points when preparing for a family session.

Will the kids behave?

Will my husband complain?

What the heck do I wear?

While I have advice for all these stress points, this blog is all about simple styling tips. These tips are simple and, the best part, they are coming from a boutique owner! She has great style and I trust her judgement so you should too.

Kylie is the owner of Liv and Rory a faith based boho boutique located in the heart of Downtown Puyallup, WA. If you haven’t taken a stroll around Downtown Puyallup I highly recommend it. There are great shops and places to grab a bite, all unique and no chains!

Liv and Rory has great pieces that can be styled up and down. Kylie chooses really comfortable neutral and earthy tones which are perfect for your upcoming fall or winter family session! You can follow her here on instagram for more.

So let’s get right into it. I have asked Kylie to give me 3 tips for styling yourself for a family session. She put together 3 outfits as examples and all the pieces are in her shop ready for purchase right now!

Tip 1: Classic Flannel

Start your outfit with pieces like a Bodysuit, High-waisted Jeans and then complete it with a Shaket or Flannel. Pair with some booties and you have a clean and simple look with all the style.

Reasons why I love this tip: I love a flannel in the fall and winter. The Shaket pairs the flannel with a jacket and is perfect for adding the style and warmth for crisper days. You will look like a fashionista for your photo session with this classic and simple look.

Tip 2: Add Texture

Adding Texture to your look will help you mix it up. Simply start with a great pair of jeans and pair with a warm sweater with great texture like a cable knit, waffle weave or popcorn weave. Add a pair of booties or mules to complete this look.

Reason why I love this tip: Texture photographs really well and can add points of interest to your clothing! Adding a textured piece to your outfit will look really great in your fall and winter photos.

Tip 3: Mix Fabrics

A great simple and easy combination for your photo session is pairing a jumpsuit with a jean jacket. Through in a pair of booties or mules and you are good to go!

Reason why I love this tip: This outfit will keep you comfortable. One of my biggest tips is to wear comfortable clothing that you can move freely in especially for sessions with me because we move a lot!

Bonus Tip: Don’t forget accessories!

Adding a wide brim hat, simple necklace or earrings can round out your look. Remember to keep it simple so don’t add a statement necklace with statement earrings and hat. Pick smaller pieces and pair with one statement piece or just pick one. Less is more!

Visit Kylie’s website here to purchase the pieces featured in tis blog and check out even more great items to make you look fabulous for your upcoming photo session!
