How to prepare for your In Home Newborn Session

As a Lifestyle Newborn Photographer and a mom of two, I know that bringing home your new baby is one of those life-altering moments. To capture this special time you’ve decided that an in home newborn session is just what your family needs to create a tangible memory to share for years to come. Your photographer is scheduled to arrive but you’re wondering…what now? This new transition period is full of so many emotions and so many to dos and maybe the thought of having to prepare for a photoshoot in your home is stressing you out. Not to worry, I’ve got three tips to help you prepare for an in-home newborn session with me that will take the stress and guess work out of the entire occasion!

How to Prepare for Your In Home Newborn Session

Tip 1: Don’t clean your home

I’m serious. I know this sounds odd but as a mother myself, I know how overwhelming this time can be. You’re focusing on recovering, bonding with your new baby, and transitioning to life with a newborn and house cleaning tends to fall to the bottom of the priority list. Not to mention you haven’t had a decent night of sleep since you welcomed baby into the world! So, I don’t want you to worry about your home being perfect, I can move things out of the way if needed. My aim is to help you relax a bit, not stress you out with having to do a deep clean before I arrive!

Tip 2: Wear something comfortable that coordinates with the colors/decor of your home

You want these at home newborn sessions to be relaxing for your family and dressing in something comfortable is one of the easiest ways to achieve those warm and cozy vibes! These photos are meant to capture the essence of being home and bonding with your new baby! Dress like you’re spending an easy Sunday snuggling at home. Take inspiration on what colors to wear directly from the colors around your home and coordinate to match!

Tip 3: Don’t plan on having outside visitors

Your family and friends are so excited to meet the new addition and your home can turn into a revolving door of loved ones. With so much hustle and bustle it can be hard to relax with all the noise and visitors. So, to keep the hustle and bustle to a minimum, I recommend only having your immediate family present for your session. This keeps the session more intimate and low-key which can be a much needed moment to slow down during this busy time.

If it’s not obvious by now, I am a huge supporter for in-home sessions, especially newborn sessions! Think about it, your home is where you and your family feel most comfortable and it’s where you build memories with your kids. Your home is where life happens. Life with a newborn is short and being able to capture the joy of this incredible time in your family’s story is precious. Don’t let it all slip away!

Capturing moments like these, for you to savor, is what I love to do. If you’re interested in scheduling your very own in-home newborn session for your family with me, please click this link to reach out so we can discuss the details of your session when baby arrives!
