Things to consider during a Family Session in the Snow | Seattle Family Photographer | Brooke Holliday Photography

Winter Family Session in the Snow

When you picture a family session you probably see bright sun and flow dresses. Here is the PNW it is no secret that the weather is not a picnic in the winter and that if you as most people they prefer the Spring, Summer or Fall. But I would ask that you don’t dismiss Winter altogether when you are thinking about having a family session. Especially when we get some rare lowland snow! Here are somethings to consider for a snowy session.

Keep Your Kids Warm

Do not underdress your kids. They will not have a good time and that is one of the most important pieces of a family session. I want everyone to have a good time. When everyone is having fun that is when the magic happens. So make sure that you dress your kids warmly so they are happy!

Keep Them Moving

When it’s cold its good to stay moving. I love to have kids run away from mom and then have them run back up and give her a bear hug. This is fun and will keep the kids distracted and help warm them up. Another thing you could do is ask the kids to jump up and down and see how get jump the highest!

Snowball Fight!!

Another active activity full of movement is to have a Snowball fight. It almost seems like a no brainer to do in the snow, am I right? This is a classic game that will keep the kids engaged and distract them from the cold. Plenty of fun and fun expressions will be caught.

Snuggle Up

Snuggling up in the cold is a perfect way to show great connection during your snowy session. Its natural and will add sweetness to your photos. Kids will be very receptive to snuggling up in the cold.
