The #1 Secret to great family photos
Have you ever felt like your family can’t handle more than a mini session? Have you ever worried that your kids might be total chaos at a photo session? Are you stressed out with the thought of being photographed as a family because things may not go right?
These are all valid points. You may never have had family photos or you may have had a bad experience with a photographer before. I myself have had been in those shoes. As a Tacoma Family Photographer I have lots of experience with families from all walks of life and I can tell you there is one thing that you can do to ensure that your session goes right every time. Would you like to know what that is?
Then come with me and I will spill the tea on… the #1 secret to great family photos!
I am going to cut right to the chase and not make you wait through the whole blog to find out.
The #1 Secret to Great Family Photos is for you, the parents, to get into the right mindset.
And now you are asking yourself… But what does that mean? Let me explain.
What I always tell my Mom’s, who book me, is when you arrive to your session be ready to let go of expectations and go with the flow. Be ready to project that this is the best day of your life and go with what ever your kids do unless of course someones safety is at risk.
So let’s think about this for a minute. You have planned this whole family session. You have high hopes that you will get all the sweet snuggly photos. Photos that ooze love and connection. Ones that you will look at, framed on your walls, and feel warm and fuzzy inside.
The only way those happen, my friend, is if you are in the mindset to make them happen. You must be wild and care free. You must be ready to play and get in a child like mindset. This helps 100% of my parents relax, go with the flow and make those photos that they are wanting happen.
So do this exercise with me. Close your eyes and think back to the last time you and your family had the best time together. Where were you? What activities were you doing? Was it chaos in the best and most fun way? Were your kids deep belly laughing? Were there snuggles after? Think about how you felt and what you did to help facilitate this great time.
That is how you want to show up to your session. Ready to go have fun, roll with the punches and be open to anything.
So that is it my friend. After you have prepared for everything else, don’t forget to prep your mindset for your session, so you can have a great time and capture those photos you are looking for.
What do you think about this advice? Is your mind blown? Did it ever cross your mind that you and your mindset were the key to success? Let me know in the comments your thoughts.
