My out of the box style of Photography | Traditional, Lifestyle, Documentary | Pierce County Family Focused Photographer | Brooke Holliday Photography
You may have heard of terms like Traditional, Lifestyle or Documentary Photography.
These terms define a style of photography that a photographer prefers to shoot. Things that might come up when speaking about Traditional Photography are sessions taking place in a studio, everyone posed and looking at the camera. When speaking of documentary you might think of images that are shot completely without any direction from the photographer, capturing moments a they happen and letting things play out without intervention. Right now Lifestyle is the trendiest and more popular style of photography to shoot. It lives somewhere in between Traditional and Documentary Photography.
I started out very traditional?
I started out in my business journey as a pretty traditional style photographer. I was shooting only in studio with artificial light and had lots of traditional portraits of families looking at the camera. My style started to evolve somewhere in between traditional and documentary, into that lifestyle category. I loved the images of families being connected and showing affection for one another. I connected with that feeling within my own family.
My style evolved into a very perfect mix of all three.
Last year I really found my style. I started to shoot outdoors and it really made me shine on the inside and out. I love the outdoors and specifically in our little slice to beauty in the Pacific North West. We have so many beautiful places to explore between the Pacific Coast and the Snoqualmie Mountain range. Seattle, WA itself is full of amazing parks that can take you from ocean to forest to open fields of grass.
Outdoor photography is where I was able to bring all three of these styles together to form a completely “ME” style. At a session with me sometimes I will ask you to look at the camera or gently guide you into a pose and sometimes I will simply document the moments that are already playing out. While I don’t have a catchy term for my style, know that its not about the style of photography your photographer shoots, it’s about how your images make you feel.
So what can you expect from me as the end product of our time together?
After all is said and done, you will get a robust gallery and wide variety of images. Your images will always feel intimate and full of emotion. They will showcase your unique family bond and represent this perfectly imperfect space in life you are in.
And while Outdoor photography helped me perfect my unique craft I still use all the same techniques whether our session takes place in the studio, outdoors or in your home. I look forward to meeting you and the ones you love. If you are ready to book a session please click the link below.
