Is my home too dark for a photoshoot?
So you are looking to have your family photos done at home, but the winters in the PNW can be dark sometimes. With overcast skies and clouds full of rain somedays can feel really dark. Not to mention the days getting super short with sunsets at 3:30!! You may be wondering if there is even enough light in your house to have a photoshoot. As a Family and Motherhood Photographer in the Tacoma area I have seen all kinds of weather on the day of a photo session at home. From rain or snow to bright streaming sun shine.
Whether you live in on older home with less windows or in a forest surrounded by tall pine trees trust me when I say that we can make it work!
There are two points that I make when I am asked about whether the light is insufficient in a family home. So let’s get into it!
First thing is that digital camera technology is really amazing now!
The sensors in my camera personally are really good and can go as higher than 10,000 ISO. It’s ok if you don’t have a clue what that means, but all you need to know is that my camera can take a photo in a very dark room and not lose quality! The new pro cameras are made to handle low light very well so you have no worries.
Secondly adding light is a possibility.
In very rare cases I have to bring lighting with me to supplement. This only usually happens if there are zero windows available. Typically this is if there is a room that is in a split level home that is like a basement with no real natural light. However I am equip with the tools necessary to make your photoshoot at home happen on the darkest of day and situations.
Have you ever had this concern? Did these points put you at ease and give you confidence that you can have the images you desire in your home?
