What to wear for Spring Family Photos | Ideas for Mom

Spring is here and family photos are ramping up in the PNW!

What to wear is always the hardest part of prepping for a family photo session. But the best piece of advice is for You, mom, to find your outfit first and build the families outfits around yours.

Today on the blog we have our last installment of the seasonal what to wear series with Sam Dorn from Learning to Bloom! She will give us 3 easy tips on how to dress for Spring family photos!

Doesn’t Spring feel so fresh? All of the trees and plants that were dormant throughout winter are waking up and giving us all a show. Everything is so green and vibrant, it is truly one of my favorite times of the year. The one thing about Spring that can be tricky is the weather, and if you’ve booked a Spring photo session you may be wondering what the heck should I wear? Not to worry, check out my three tips below for what to wear for your Spring photos.

  1. Florals…for Spring?

Miranda Priestly may not have loved florals for Spring but I sure do! There is something so romantic about florals and floral details this time of year. The lush greenery everywhere along with the Spring blooms can make for some dreamy photos and the perfect backdrop for a lovely floral pattern! I love a dress with an all over subtle floral pattern or a lovely blouse with a slightly larger pattern paired with a lighter wash jean or even a nice pair of light colored trousers. Both would be great options for your Spring photos!

2. Layer Up

Like I mentioned in the intro, the weather can be quite tricky this time of year. Here in the PNW, we can run the gambit of Sunny warm days to drizzly and cold days so I find it’s best to be prepared for anything! We can do this by adding layers! Not only will layers keep you comfortable, they are flattering and will also help add texture and interest to your photos! Layer a chunky knit over your dress, add a vest over a button up, or a jean jacket over your outfit are all ways of adding layers!

3. Stick to a lighter color pallet

I love dressing in bold colors in the Summer and Fall but for Spring, I recommend sticking to a lighter more neutral pallet. With the gorgeous backdrop of the season, pastels can really pop and make a statement. Pastels also add a lovely softness to your photos and honestly, everyone looks great in these types of colors!

Dressing for your Spring photos can be effortless. By incorporating florals, layering up, and sticking to a lighter more neutral color pallet, you should be able choose a beautiful outfit for your upcoming photo session!
