When is the best time to have a Newborn Photo Shoot at home?

A very commonly asked question from parents inquiring about a Newborn photo shoot at home is what is the best time to have the photo shoot take place. When I take on a newborn photo shoot at home I usually suggest that we start the photo shoot around 10-10:30 AM. And there are a few factors to this but 1 main reason. Let’s get into that below.

When is the best time to have a newborn photo shoot at home?

As I said above I suggest to start a newborn photo shoot at home between 10-10:30 AM. There are a couple of reasons for this.

Reason 1: The light will be best in the morning

Now depending on what time of year it is in the PNW the sun can rise between 5am and 9am. That means that 10 AM is a safe starting time. Usually your house will be well lit by 10-10:30 am. Light is very important for an in home session as we have to work with direction and window placement.

Reason 2: 10 AM is a decent hour for tired parents

Let’s be real, you won’t be getting any quality sleep in the first 4 weeks of bringing baby home. So starting at say 7 am in July isn’t going to do you any favors. Take if from me, who had a 7 AM shoot in July (lol), I know how hard that was to get up that early. Having your Newborn photo shoot at home in the mid morning will give you some time to wake up, have some caffeine and prepare for your photographer to come and capture all the snuggles!

You can rest easy that your photographer will have your best interest in mind when picking the mid morning for your newborn photo shoot at home because they will want you home to have the best light and you to have had the time you need to be ready for their arrival!
