Why I don't pose newborns | Buckley, WA Newborn Photographer | Brooke Holliday Photography

When my daughter was born I thought she was perfection. Can you relate?

The way she looked, slept, just her existence was perfect. I would spend hours in those first couple days just staring at her.

I loved her little hands.

Her tiny toes.

Her long lovely eye lashes.

My favorite memories of my baby girl are her just being her.

This is the bases of what I believe about newborn photography. Babies are absolutely perfect the way they are. They don’t need props or intricate posing to make them cuter. They are the most adorable things in this whole world just as they are. Do you agree?

What to expect from me

Now when I say I don’t pose I am talking about the frog pose or baby with their hands up under their chin asleep. These, while they can be cute, are not natural poses a baby would be in and some are not that safe. (As a mentor that worked in the NICU has said.)

Baby led posing is the best description of how I like to work. I let newborns run the show mostly at the session. Whatever is most comfortable for them is what we work with.

Babies even sometimes put them selves into very lovely poses like the first two images I have include here.

Now that’s not to say that you won’t get a variety of images of you precious little one. I make sure to get different perspectives and all the detail shots.

My newborns are put in naturally organic positions they would normally be in. The safety and comfort of your baby is the number one priority during these sessions.

My favorite ways to position babies is the way they are most comfortable in the moment. If it’s on either back, stomach or side. My favorite ways to photograph baby are in their diaper, white onesie or a simple swaddle. Nothing more necessary.

XOXO Brooke!
